Tour for Utopia!
Supporters and fans packed the shows in Dallas, Winnsboro, San Antonio, Tyler, Houston and La Grange to raise money for Utopia and listen to some great music. Seven out of eight shows were complete sell-outs with standing room only and there were so many fans still clamoring for tickets that second performances were added in Houston and La Grange!
Showgoers in each city also had the opportunity to bid on autographed Willie Nelson guitars and other exclusive items to help fund animal rescue. Don’t worry if you weren’t able to attend one of the January tour stops; more shows are being added for February and March 2008! Check our events calendar regularly for the latest news and tour dates!
Guy Reynolds attended the Winnsboro show:
“Kinky Friedman and Seven Fromholz performed a benefit concert for the Utopia Animal Shelter at Crossroads Coffeehouse and Music in Winnsboro Saturday, Jan. 6, 2008. An auction of cigars and accessories and two guitars, one that was signed by Willie Nelson, raised several hundred dollars during the evening.
Nancy and I had front-row seating with our good friends Rick and Shanan Jackson, in Texas for the holidays and an untimely funeral for Rick's dad that very afternoon. The concert proved to be the perfect antidote for the sad day. We literally laughed until we cried.
The inimitable Star-Telegram columnist, Bud Kennedy, was with us as well and got a big shout-out from Kinky for being an upstanding newsman.
Seeing Fromholz dance a jig across the stage was great since he had a major stroke not too many years back and has recovered quite well. My dad suffered a stroke just two days before and listening to Steven sing about "every stumble being a step" was good to hear and something I'll share with my dad.”
